Mick Vanner is the standard bearer and Stephen the Padre of the Essex Branch of the Submariners Association.

In recent weeks they have been very busy. Three of their ship-mates have recently died: Ian Nethercott, Charlie Deleay and Cliff Summerhayes. On each occasion, they have attended to take part in the services and offer their support to the bereaved.
