Southchurch Food Bank was formally opened on the evening of the 3rd November.

The Food Bank is an ecumenical venture sponsored by five churches in the locality: Belle Vue (Baptist), Whittingham Avenue (Methodist), Southend Christian Centre (Plaza), Sacred Heart (Catholic) and Ferndale.

The commissioning service, at which several local councillors were in attendance, was held at Belle Vue with representatives of all the congregations (including a good attendance from Ferndale). Local activist, Jack Monroe, told her own story in support of the Bank and opportunity was given to visit the impressive warehouse facility.

Designed to meet the needs of those requiring emergency support in the wards of Southchurch, Kursaal, Thorpe Bay and St. Luke’s the Bank is associated with the Trussell Trust.
