Serving the World-wide Church

David Couchman, managing director of Focus, a small mass-media mission agency based in Southampton, has sent the following report of the work.

He notes, ‘Ferndale pastor Stephen Dray plays a vital role in the leadership team of Focus – of which he is a Trustee.’

‘In the 1980s and 90s, Focus used to specialise in making radio programmes for India, Russia and Central Asia.

‘More recently, Focus branched out into using the ‘new media,’ with a web site and the ‘Facing the Challenge’ online home group courses.

‘In 2006 we produced a DVD featuring Stephen in response to the claims in ‘The Da Vinci Code.’  After the initial interest died down, we put all the video clips from this DVD on the Youtube web site. Since then, they’ve been watched more than seventy thousand times.  You can find these videos at

‘’Focus’ most recent initiative has taken us into the world of podcasting, producing the ‘Slipstream: leaders in formation’ podcast for the Evangelical Alliance.

‘Slipstream features interviews with established Christian leaders such as Terry Virgo, Tom Wright, David Jackman, Tim Keller and Gary Habermas. One listener said:

‘Lovin’ the podcasts guys! A great blend of theology, leadership issues and the difference loving Jesus makes in the 21st century. Great insights into leaders’ personal lives too – priceless and inspirational! Keep up the awesome work!’

‘Focus also produces the ‘Seize the Day’ podcast, which we describe as an ‘ideas factory’ for mission:

‘As more and more churches, organisations and individuals are interested in producing podcasts, we’re holding a training day this autumn called ‘Beyond Online Sermons.’  There’s more about these at

‘I’d like to take this opportunity to thank Ferndale Baptist church for giving your pastor the freedom to contribute to the wider ministry of the worldwide church in this way.’
