New Word Alive

Posted on 17 April 2008
A number of church members and friends of Ferndale recently enjoyed attending the excellent first New Word Alive conference in Pwllheli.

The Southend contingent left on a Sunday when there had been a snowfall during the morning but enjoyed a largely dry and sunny week in North Wales. The standard of Bible teaching at the conference was extremely high. The morning Bible readings were ably led by Don Carson who explained the first letter of John. In the evening sessions Terry Virgo, John Piper and Hugh Palmer reminded us from the book of Romans about the seriousness of sin and how entirely offensive it is to God. The grace of God in salvation and in the atonement was spelled out powerfully.

Another highlight was the worship where we learned some new songs. On the first evening there was also a concert given by Keith and Kristyn Getty and Stuart Townend. Steve was later able to tell Stuart Townend over breakfast how much of a blessing his new hymns are to us at Ferndale!

Gareth had a more exhausting week than the rest of us as he was involved with the children’s programme as one of the leaders of the 8-11 age group.

During the week we met up with various Ferndale friends presently serving the Lord in various places, including Steve Pryor, Anna Hartridge, Sarah Dawkins and Sarah Edwards.

There was a large student presence (around 1000) and a special student ‘track’ catered for their needs. Peter Dray was involved in leading one of the seminars and he and other staff from UCCF were kept busy meeting up with students individually and in small ‘impact groups’.

Perhaps next year we will be able to get together a bigger party….
