John Barfield
A number of members of the Ferndale Church were able to attend the thanksgiving service of former pastor, John Barfield, on the 23rd October 2009.
Stirring singing of ‘In Christ alone my hope is found’ and ‘Thou art the everlasting word’ by a large congregation at Avenue Baptist, highlighted John’s life-long commitment to Jesus as the incarnate Son of God and sin-bearer. The presence of no less than the General Secretary of the Baptist Union, Rev. Jonathan Edwards, who led the prayer of thanksgiving, highlighted the significant role that John had occupied in the administration of the Union. A powerful message by Phil Andrews, pastor of Avenue, was a fitting tribute to John.
John played a significant role at Ferndale, present at the opening of the new Chapel. The congregation who knew him could echo the words of Scripture: ‘Well done, you good and faithful servant’.
