“FREE”-dom for the North

Posted on 18 November 2008
Last week, Sarah travelled up to Lancaster to work with a team, including 8 UCCF Relay Workers and Peter Dray, who worked alongside the University of Cumbria in their aim of giving out 1000 copies of Mark's gospel to their friends, housemates and coursemates.

This was part of a nationwide campaign to give away 400,000 copes of the “FREE” gospel to students who have never explored who Jesus is before (http://www.uccf.org.uk/students/gospel-project/). The week had lots of events as well as doing questionnaires in campus coffee shops and bars and giving out flyers. Each lunchtime there was a talk with a free lunch. The talk was based around the question “What would Jesus say to ... “ and included people such as Michael Phelps, Madonna and Jennifer Aniston. These talks all dealt with issues relating to things that can make students think that Jesus isn’t relevant to them. There were events each evening as well including a pub quiz, an acoustic night and a posh “free course dinner” (which Peter is pictured speaking at) which all had talks from Mark’s gospel to challenge those there about the relevance of Jesus to each of their lives.
