Food… for thought!

“The organisation was excellent, the fellowship encouraging, the teaching outstanding and the food yummy.” Such was the verdict of just one of the 100 or so enthusiastic attendees of the first FutureFaith conference at Ferndale Baptist Church on Saturday.

Designed to draw on the best of evangelical scholarship to bring clear and biblical reflection to contemporary questions, the conference was launched by an address by Rev. Prof. James Packer of Regent College, Vancouver. Dr. Packer, who had flown over from Canada specifically for the event, spoke on the subject, “Spiritual Life in the 21st Century: Principles, Problems and Prospects.” A careful analysis of what it means to be an ‘evangelical’ was accompanied by an examination of some of evangelicalism’s spiritual shortcomings. It was concluded by a call to biblical holiness which, said Dr. Packer, was the key to effective spiritual growth and impact.
