From North Shields to Ipswich with Cirdan Sailing Trust in ‘Duette’

Posted on 23 August 2005
On this occasion we were offered a real challenge, by sailing down the North Sea from North Shields to Ipswich, calling in at Hartlepool, Whitby, and Lowestoft. In every way this voyage was an exciting challenge, not least because we had to drive nearly the length of the country, and sail down a similar distance in conditions, that were to say the least, challenging.

Our seven-man crew consisted of, Tristan, Andrew, Ben, Julie and her son Thai, my nephew Dominic, and yours truly. We had prior to the voyage, set ourselves personal objectives, which included “Learning how to Sail”, “Obtaining the Competent Crew Certificate” or “learning how to get on with each other”, and someone set themselves the task of “not getting sick”. Now I wonder if the person who wrote this had some advanced knowledge.
