CELEBRATING THE LIFE OF GEORGE CHARLES SMITH

Posted on 17 June 2013
Stephen took part in the 150th Anniversary of the death of George Charles Smith of Penzance on the weekend of 15th and 16th June.

Smith was one of the most influential evangelical leaders of the nineteenth century: a remarkable evangelist and the apostle of seamen’s mission. On Saturday Stephen was one of the speakers at a day conference as he introduced Smith as pastor and evangelist. On Sunday, with the mayor of Penzance and representatives of seamen’s agencies from as far away as Seattle present, Stephen preached at Smith’s graveside.

Stephen’s Th.D thesis was devoted to Smith’s ministry. Copies of the thesis or the ‘popular’ version of Smith’s remarkable story can be obtained from him.
