A Saint Indeed

Last week, one of the un-sung saints of Southchurch was laid to rest: Mrs. Dorothy Prior.

A Bedfordshire girl, she entered service in the Southend area in the late 1920’s. It was while in service she met David, her husband-to-be, and they attended together the same Methodist Church at Bournes Green. After their marriage in 1933 they moved to Seaforth Avenue in the housing estate that was being built upon the grounds of the old Hamstel House. Their move co-incided with the founding of a small Baptist congregation in Ferndale Road (in 1932). They became active members of the church.
