A Missed Opportunity?
Recently Stephen was unable to attend the Committee of the Fellowship of European Evangelical Theologians in Aix-en-Provence for which he is the English representative.
Thus he missed meeting his Czech colleague Pavel Cerny who, on return to Prague, had an audience with Benedict XVI where he represented the Czech churches.
Pavel, a convinced evangelical and leader of the Czech Brethren has been actively involved in his native country in seeking to build trusting relationships with those from other Christian traditions. His personal friendship with the Cardinal Archbishop of Prague has been one of the fruits of his work.
Stephen comments, ‘Christians often have deep and significant differences between them, but building bridges and friendships can do much to lower the walls and promote true and fruitful dialogue.’
