The 4th of September marked the funeral of Muriel Parish.

Muriel was 92. Daughter of a retailer, she moved frequently with her family in east and north London. She met Ken, her husband, through the Ramblers Association and the International Friendship League. Married in 1941, they had two sons, Stuart and Graham (the latter of whom died in 1997). Muriel joined the Women’s Police Corps during the War. Moving to Leigh in 1959, she and Ken were active in the life of St. Michaels, leading Bible Studies and involved in the Amateur Dramatic Group. Widowed at 63, she took in lodgers, one of whom, Adrian stayed until her death! She loved Scrabble, painting and poetry (one of her published poems was read at the funeral). She remained actively involved in the life of both St. Michaels and Ferndale until her health began to decline. In her last days she said ‘I am fixed on heaven’s gate… I want to go to Jesus’. Muriel was faithful to the end… a wonderful example of a faithful follower of Jesus.
