A Dozen Baptisms!
The 3rd of October was a very special day in the life of the two Ferndale congregations.
A good-sized congregation gathered to witness the baptism of two of the congregation at Ferndale and ten members of the two Brethren in Christ congregations at Southend and Basildon.
A feature of the service was the different mode of baptism. For the Ferndale candidates, they were dipped once into the water and backwards. For the Brethren in Christ, each candidate was baptised forwards, from a kneeling position and each had a threefold baptism in the name of Father, Son and Holy Spirit. Pastors Stephen and Bonnet shared together in all the baptisms.
For the Brethren in Christ the service was followed by an evening rally and, the following day, a service of feet washing and communion …. And a substantial meal.
